FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything about how LOCKD works, what it blocks, and why it holds.

What is LOCKD?

LOCKD is a discipline and consistency app for iPhone. It blocks distracting apps, tracks your habits, and keeps you locked into your goals instead of your screen.

How does LOCKD block distracting apps?

You choose the apps that pull you off track and the windows when they should be unavailable. LOCKD uses Apple's built-in Screen Time and Family Controls frameworks to enforce the block during those windows.

How is LOCKD different from Apple's Screen Time?

Screen Time is excellent at showing you data, but when you hit a limit it offers a one-tap option to ignore it. LOCKD is built around enforcement rather than reporting, so the rule you set while thinking clearly still holds later when you would rather it didn't.

Can I unblock an app after I've locked it?

That is the point of the app. LOCKD is designed to remove the easy exit, so a block is not something you can undo with a single tap in a moment of temptation.

Does LOCKD track my screen time?

Yes. You can see where your time actually goes, along with your habit completion rate, longest streaks, and best weeks.

What are lock-in streaks?

A streak counts your consecutive days of following through. If you miss a day, the streak resets. That pressure is intentional, because a visible record you don't want to break is more reliable than motivation.

Is LOCKD free?

LOCKD is free to download and use, with premium features available through an optional subscription.

Does LOCKD work on Android?

LOCKD is currently iPhone only and requires iOS 16 or later. The app blocking features depend on Apple frameworks that have no direct Android equivalent.

Will LOCKD drain my battery or slow down my phone?

No. LOCKD uses Apple's native Screen Time framework rather than running constantly in the background, so the impact on battery and performance is minimal.

What happens if I delete LOCKD to get around a block?

Deleting and reinstalling doesn't erase what you committed to. LOCKD is built on the assumption that you will try to find a way around it on a bad day, which is exactly when the system needs to hold.

Do I need an account to use LOCKD?

You can start using LOCKD right away. Signing in enables syncing your data across devices, but it isn't required to track habits or block apps.

How long before it starts working?

Most people notice the automatic reach for a blocked app starting to fade within four to seven days. Building a habit that feels genuinely automatic takes longer, often closer to two months, which is normal and covered in our post on the 21-day habit myth.
